The Gateway Plaza is a 2,000 square foot hardscaped area that will serve as a welcoming area for passengers to take a moment to wait for their train or a ride home from the Mountlake Terrace Station. This plaza will serve as a "gateway" to Snohomish County, as Mountlake Terrace is the first stop in Snohomish County for light rail, and the gateway to Mountlake Terrace for people exiting light rail at the station.
The City of Mountlake Terrace has contracted with Otak, Inc. to design the plaza. Sound Transit will fund and construct the plaza as part of the Access Enhancement Agreement. The city will maintain the plaza after construction is complete.
The Gateway Plaza is adjacent to the Mountlake Terrace Light Rail Station just east of the Interstate 5 off ramp and the new road under construction, called Gateway Boulevard.
The design phase is late 2018 through spring of 2019. Construction will take place in 2023-2024 and be ready for when light rail service begins.
