Help Solve Congestion

Traffic congestion is getting worse and will continue to degrade if we do not change how we commute. People now realize that building more lanes is not solving our congestion problems. A more balanced solution is critical to reducing congestion, and can also improve quality of life, health, the environment, the economy, and protect neighborhoods.

Congestion is caused when a roadway has too little space left. Take a look at the photos on the right and see how congestion can easily be caused based on the type of transportation people use. Four blocks of gridlock transport the same number of people as one light rail vehicle can. We need to carefully consider all of our transportation choices, including:
  • Carpooling
  • Vanpooling
  • Transit
  • Bicycling
  • Walking
  • Commuting at non-peak times
