[ARCHIVED] July 3 Fireworks Show at Ballinger Park

An Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Show will be held on Sunday, July 3 (not the 4th) from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. at Ballinger Park (23000 Lakeview Drive). Funding for an Independence Day Celebration event was not included in the city’s budget, but the Cheeseburger Babies Foundation (a non-profit organization) has stepped up and raised over $10,000 to hold this event. Many thanks to their organization and their sponsors including Red Onion Burgers and Double DD Meats.

The organization obtained a special events permit to allow fireworks and an agreement was approved by the City Council for this event in May. Previous Independence Day events were held at Evergreen Playfield but this year the venue will be Ballinger Park and the fireworks show will take place over the west side of the park. A spectator viewing area will be just south of the Mountlake Terrace Senior/Community Center also known as Ballinger Clubhouse.

Parking is limited at Ballinger Park. Additional parking will be available at the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center (6001 - 236th Street SW) and the event sponsors will provide free shuttle service with four mini-busses. Please be prepared for possible long waits depending on the number of attendees needing shuttle service particularly upon conclusion of the event. Guests may also take the new Lakeview Trail and walk or bike to the event.

The event kicks off at 7:00 p.m. with live music including swing music and a DJ to play some popular tunes. Food will be provided by the senior center as a fundraiser during the event, as well as some free food by event sponsors.

Park and clubhouse restrooms will be closed to the public but there will be portable toilets on site. It’s the first time holding this event at this location so please plan ahead and be prepared for any weather conditions, low lighting conditions upon exit, probable shuttle waits, and bring chairs or blankets to sit on.

For more information, please call Councilmember Seaun Richards at (425) 218-5996.
