[ARCHIVED] Mountlake Terrace Tree Lighting Ceremony

The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is Friday, December 2, at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Avenue W, at 6:30 p.m. The evening features a choral concert by Mountlake Terrace Elementary and Terrace Park School students, a visit from Santa, and the traditional lighting of the tree.

Visible for miles around, the enormous "tree" is actually a frame constructed of over 1,800 lights that is located on top of the city's water tower. The LED lights use only 25% of the power as the old lights while containing twice as many lights.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony brings our community together with holiday spirit. Tour de Terrace volunteers serve cookies, hot coffee and cocoa and Santa will meet with children after his grand entrance on a Fire Truck!

“We’ll have music playing followed by the choirs between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m., and then we’ll introduce the City Council and sponsor prior to Santa’s arrival so please get your warm drinks and cookies from the concession stand first if possible,” stated Community Relations Director Virginia Olsen. “Thanks so much to Vineyard Park for sponsoring this year’s Tree Lighting Ceremony again, Fire District 1 for transporting Santa, and our dedicated Tour de Terrace volunteers who have done this event for years and years.”

The weather is always unpredictable in early December, thus we recommend that guests dress warmly and wear boots if the weather is wet because the event is held on a dirt field.

The event is free, however cash donations will be accepted for the Michelle Ringler Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund at the concession stand. The Fund has helped hundreds of children register for recreation programs at the Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion since 2002.
