[ARCHIVED] MLT Police Implement Community Outreach Supply & Resource Program

The Mountlake Terrace Police Department, in partnership with the Mountlake Terrace Business Association, put together community resource and supply bags containing food, non-food items, pamphlets/brochures with information about local shelters, housing assistance, treatment and mental health programs that will be stored in first responder vehicles.

The purpose and scope of the Community Outreach Supply and Resource Program is to assist the police department in building trusting and quality relationships by providing struggling members of the community access to basic supplies and resources.

The City of Mountlake Terrace police officers interact on a regular basis with people who possess a wide range of education and income levels including many with economic challenges and deficits in resource and service allocation. These issues can erode relationships between unique groups within the community and the social/human service systems, of which the police are a vital component.

The Mountlake Terrace Police Department strives to build strong, sustainable, trusting and effective relationships between the community and police. While progress has been made, the department continues to strengthen the trust with the citizens they serve in order to be truly effective.

First responders will distribute the contents of the bags to members of the community who are in need of such supplies and services. Additionally, these items can be used to build rapport and/or build trust and quality relationships with citizens. “The idea of and proposal for this program was generated by our first responders who recognized the need. It truly represents our personnel’s commitment to serving our community members with compassion. I would also like to recognize and thank the Mountlake Terrace Business Association for their partnership to keep this program going,” said Chief Wilson.
