Over 50 volunteers turned out Saturday, April 27, in beautiful spring weather to pull invasive weeds along Hall Creek, prune and remove brush, and pick up litter around the Senior Center and in Ballinger Park in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day. Volunteers received a tree from the city working with the Snohomish Conservation District.
“It was great to see many families attend with their children,” said Recreation and Parks Director Jeff Betz. Members of the City Council, Recreation Park Advisory Commission, the Neighborhood Park Improvement Subcommittee as well as the Mountlake Terrace Ballinger Organic Garden (MLTBOG), the Mountlake Terrace Dog Off-Leash Group (MLTDOG), the Mountlake Terrace Senior Center and Plant Amnesty were also on site.
In total, the volunteers removed about 10 yards of overgrowth and debris from the park. The work party concluded with the Mountlake Terrace City Council serving lunch to the volunteers at the Mickey Corso Community Clubhouse to thank them for their work.
The city’s next park clean up event will be on Saturday, September 14 in recognition of the National Day of Service (September 11).
