[ARCHIVED] Council Approves 2017 Lodging Tax Recommendation

Lodging Tax funds totaling $25,000 were approved by the City Council at its February 21 meeting. The City Council recommended allocating the funds to help provide tourism related events and programs in 2017.

The Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) met December 28, and reviewed the requests and recommended funding for Tour de Terrace at $16,775, Arts of the Terrace at $2,000, July 3rd Fireworks Show at $2,000, and Snohomish County Tourism Bureau Visitor Information Center Program at $2,725 for a total of $23,500.00. In addition, the LTAC recommended the City Council set aside $1,500 in a special fund for a future tourism related facility for the arts.

Lodging tax funds are derived from the hotel-motel taxes collected by the city’s only hotel, Studio 6, an extended stay facility located in the Gateway Place Business Park. The funds must be used toward the operational or promotional expenditures of programs and events that provide an economic benefit to the community and promote overnight stays in Mountlake Terrace.

More information on lodging tax funds is available by calling Community Relations Director/City Clerk Virginia Olsen at (425) 744-6206 or by email to cityhall@ci.mlt.wa.us.
