The City Hall Advisory Committee has scheduled four community meetings with the City Hall project architects to engage the public in different neighborhoods of the city. The first community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28, at Mountlake Terrace Senior Center/Ballinger Clubhouse, 23000 Lakeview Drive. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with the program beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Topics for the March 28 community meeting include project goals, why voters did or did not support previous measures, the public’s perception of a town center, zoning, public input received so far this year, and the Civic Center site. A vision statement will be created to establish options for the April 20 community meeting.
For residents who cannot attend this meeting, an online comment form is available on the City Hall Advisory Committee webpage at www.cityofmlt.com/1899. The city encourages everyone to participate.
Since January, the City Hall Advisory Committee helped select a project architect, ARC Architects of Seattle, toured Interim City Hall and the Police Station, and developed a community outreach program. In addition, they have begun conducting neighborhood chats at various businesses around the city to let people know about the project and hear their input. Key goals for the committee include gathering input from the community and developing a cost-effective project at an affordable price to recommend to the City Council in early June.
Space planning for this project is also in full swing. ARC Architects met with city staff in mid-March about current space needs and in the future as the population grows over the next few decades. Once the size of City Hall is determined, further discussion will take place about where and how to site the building to make the best use of the space to make the Civic Center a pleasant gathering place in the city’s revitalizing Town Center. Eventually, different concepts will be brought forward for community input.
Updates continue to be posted on the project webpage, www.cityofmlt.com/1899. You can also sign up for notifications by clicking on the “Notify Me” button on our home page, www.cityofmlt.com.
