[ARCHIVED] Sponsor Support Helps MLT National Night Out Shine

Train

The City’s 21st Annual National Night Out was a huge success as nearly 1,000 attendees braved the heat wave to attend the event. This year the event fell on the heels of Tour de Terrace also held at Evergreen Playfield. The National Association of Town Watch has selected our event as a National Award Winner for its outstanding participation for several years.

This year’s event featured an array of entertainment including Caricature Artist Steve Hartley (aka Muggshotz), Balloon Artist Sara Chastain from Puget Sound Balloons, Face Painting by Girl Scout Troop #43738, DJ RT Music, Bouncy Houses, MTYAA Batting Game, and a children’s train.

Exciting demonstrations by Seattle Tae Kwon Do in Mountlake Terrace and Mountlake Terrace Dance Programs thrilled the crowd followed by Police Chief Greg Wilson and an officer from the Edmonds Police Department who answered questions from the audience after an exciting K-9 demonstration.

New this year, Cascade Bicycle Club held a Bike Rodeo on the tennis court parking lot on 224th Street and provided bike helmets and bicycle lessons for children. There were a number of public safety vehicles on hand for guests to experience and a Mountlake Terrace Quiz Show encouraged contestants to answer questions about the new E-DUI law and other public safety questions.

“We couldn’t do this event without the strong support of our local businesses and community partners who provide funding for the free food, supplies and equipment,” said Community Relations Director Virginia Olsen. “We really appreciate Premera Blue Cross, our principal sponsor, who stepped up again to make this event a special day in our community.”

Free hot dogs, chips, cotton candy, cookies, water and soda were provided thanks to the many sponsorships and donations by local businesses and volunteer assistance from Snohomish County Fire District 1, City board and commission members, and city employees. About 30 local agencies provided giveaways and information about the services they offer in our community.

Thank you to the following sponsors of this year’s event: Premera Blue Cross, AFCO & Sons, Azteca (Mountlake Terrace), Ballinger Thriftway, Double DD Meats, Espresso Break, Grand Pere Bakery, Mountlake Terrace Albertsons, Mountlake Terrace Business Association, Mountlake Terrace Friends of the Arts, Red Onion Burgers, Sorelli Pizza, Sound Community Bank, Terrace-Brier Lions Club, Tim’s Cascade Chips, Tour de Terrace, and Vineyard Park.
