At the City Council’s January 2 meeting, Jerry Smith was unanimously re-elected to serve as Mayor by the City Council. Councilmember Kyoko Matsumoto Wright was re-elected to serve as Mayor Pro Tem for 2018. Under the Council-Manager form of government, the City Council is elected by voters and the Council selects the Mayor for a two-year term and Mayor Pro Tem for a one-year team at the first meeting of the year.
The Council also decided to keep their 2018 representatives for city and intergovernmental boards the same as last year. The City Council’s regional leadership has been an important component of establishing and maintaining partnerships as well as working together with other agencies to leverage limited resources. Councilmembers attend intergovernmental and city board meetings in addition to an average of four monthly City Council meetings.
Mayor Jerry Smith will serve on the city’s Finance Committee, the LEOFF I Disability Board, Snohomish County 911 Board (pending regional caucus approval), Snohomish County Emergency Radio System (SERS) Board, and the Lake Ballinger/McAleer Creek Watershed Forum. He continues to serve as an alternate on the Community Transit Board of Directors.
Mayor Pro Tem Kyoko Matsumoto Wright will serve on the SeaShore Transportation Forum, Snohomish County Tomorrow Steering Committee, Alliance for Housing Affordability, and Snohomish Health District Board.
Councilmember Doug McCardle will be the Council liaison to the city’s Recreation and Parks Advisory Commission. He continues to serve on the LEOFF I Disability Board.
