[ARCHIVED] Verdant Awards 1 Million Dollars for New Turf Field

Verdant Health Commission has awarded the City of Mountlake Terrace a one million dollar grant to replace the dirt field to the north at Evergreen Playfield Complex with synthetic turf and update the lighting. The Evergreen Playfield Complex is located at 22205 56th Avenue W., Mountlake Terrace.

“This project will expand recreational opportunities for youth and adults in south Snohomish County,” said Recreation and Parks Director Jeff Betz. “An additional turf facility will allow more groups field time to get community members active.”

Some of the potential user groups will include the Edmonds School District, Terrace Brier Soccer Club, Greater Seattle Surf Soccer Club, Disc Northwest, Mountlake Terrace Youth Athletic Association, Mayhem and Redhawks Fastpitch Softball. These are some of the groups that have expressed interest in year round field usage.

Currently the field is being utilized for approximately 200 hours per year. The estimated use of the facility when the project is completed is 1,800 hours per year. The increase is due to the demand for turf facilities and added user groups requesting field time. The design process will begin in late 2019 and construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020.

About the Verdant Health Commission

The Verdant Health Commission works to educate and empower the community to make healthy lifestyle choices, while protecting the ownership of the community hospital for future generations. For nearly 50 years, Public Hospital District No. 2, Snohomish County’s commissioners governed and managed the community hospital. Since reaching an agreement with Swedish Health Services in 2010 to operate the hospital, the Board of Commissioners shifted its focus to prevention and wellness, creating the Verdant Health Commission.
