In follow up to previous City Council discussion, an ordinance has been prepared to increase the number of chickens allowed on single-family residences as well as provisions for how they are housed.
Past Council discussion included consideration of lot sizes, waste disposal, noise, odor, and containing the chickens within the back yard as defined in the city code.
The Council asked for additional public input after their first review and dozens of emails and comments were provided by residents in February and March of this year.
The recommendation to be considered at the June 3 work/study session is to increase the number of backyard female chickens or ducks from three to six as well as provisions for maintenance, upkeep, and hygiene. Roosters and male ducks would continue to be prohibited. Formal action on the ordinance is tentatively scheduled for Monday, June 7.
